Last month’ edition of Let’s Knit Magazine featured a photo of a lovely knitted jumper with little owls achieved with the cable stitch. There was no instructions but I somehow managed to figure out how to do knitted owls. So I made this little hand knit bag which made a great birthday present for my friend Emily.
If you like knitted bags, here’s how to make your own mini bag with owls:
For the bag body, (make two):
Using 4mm needles cast on 52 stitches.
Beginning with a knit row, knit the first four rows in the stocking stitch.
Row 5: (p4,C4B,C4F) 4 times, p4
Row 6: p
Work the next 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Row 11: p5, (C3B (put one stitch on a cable needle and place behind stitches, knit 2, knit 1 from cable needle), C3F (put two stitches on a cable needle and place in front of stitches, knit 1, knit 2 from cable needle), p6) 4 times, p5
Row 12: p
Work next two rows in stocking stitch.
Row 15: p6 (C2B, p8) 4 times, p6
Row 16: P
Continue in stocking stitch until desired length. My bag measures 25 cm.
For the handles, (make two):
Using 4mm needles cast on 8 stitches
Work 64 rows in stocking stitch or until work measures about 20 cm
For owls eyes use beads or buttons and stitch before you stitch the lining. Cut lining for both handles and for the bag body. Stitch lining to handles and then stitch handles to each side of the bag body. Then stitch the bag body lining.
