Heart Knitting Pattern

Knitted Heart Knitting Pattern

I have been working on a few knitting projects lately, however it looks like I will have to slow down a bit as my hands started to get really numb and hurt a lot, (pregnancy symptoms). I have a few patterns that I so want to share here on Prettily, but I might need to delay those posts.

In the light of St. Valentine’s I tried designing a few heart patterns and have come with some nice designs. So now I will share with you how to knit a simple heart shape that you can use for application and decoration on another knitting or sewing project.

I used 3mm needles and an acrylic yarn

Cast on 2 sts
Row 1 (and all alt odd rows) (WS): purl
Row 2: kfb (twice) (4 sts)
Row 4: kfb, k2, kfb (6 sts)
Row 6: kfb, k4, kfb (8 sts)
Row 8: kfb, k6, kfb (10 sts)
Row 10: kfb, k8, kfb (12 sts)
Row 12: kfb, k10, kfb (14 sts)
Row 14: kfb, k12, kfb (16 sts)
Continue without shaping in stockinette stitch for three more rows ending on a WS
Row 18: k2tog, k5, join in a 2nd ball of yarn and cast off centre 2 sts, k5, k2tog
Work both sides at the same time (6 sts at each side)
Row 19: purl
Row 20: k2tog k3, cast off 1 st at the end of this side and at the beginning of next, k3, k2tog (4 sts at each side)
Row 21: purl
Row 22: k2tog, k1, cast off 1 st at the end of this side and at the beginning of next, k1, k2tog (2 sts at each side)
Row 23: purl together the 2 rem sts on each side and cast off last sts.

You can use this heart on a knitted bag, sewn clutch or stitch to a jumper. Use your imagination for many more uses you can make of it!

Happy Valentine’s day!
